Final 3D result and process

Image
Final 3D result For this project i wanted to create a sculpture on the Venus of Willendorf primitive sculpture. The idea was to still explore styles and visual approach on preexisting artifacts. I broke down the shapes into recognizable smaller pieces and designed my idea digitally on Clip Studio Paint. After i proceeded to cut down the pieces, after checking if they fit tightly together i started thinking of colour and shapes. Still with the pieces separated i started to paint with basic colours, switching only the red for an orange to create a complementary scheme with a lime green to ease the blend.  Sadly the photos do not represent the sculpture as i would like them to, however this is my final piece.

Website Changes

Image
Website Changes We were put into groups with a peer and assess their portfolio website and have that peer discuss ours. I received a lot of positive feedback as i was told it was simple, effective and attractive. The home gallery was a nice brief introduction, the about me page had just enough but still conveyed the info i was trying, the contact worked great and so did the UI Feedback. There was however, something that my peer advised me, which was to change the gallery and compartment it into different terms and works. Before i had just one Gallery selector on the page which would lead to all the works individually, and now i will add multiple, one for each term and work so they are better divided and more easily accessible.

Amanita Design

Image
Amanita Design Amanita design is a indie video-game company from czech republic with a name based on the famous and iconic mushroom "amanita muscaria". This indie company was founded in 2003 by Jakub Dvorsky, an animator, designer and artist. This game studio was introduced to me by my tutor due to the similar objective in their projects. The aim with my project was to explore new mediums, games nowadays tend to focus on hyper-realistic graphics in 4k with extreme and unnecessary detail. Of course this all looks amazing, but the market is saturated with this sort of content with the more recent games trying to look even more hyper-realistic with more groundbreaking detail. I, on the other hand, think that hyper realism is boring, clearly it is not the best way to convey imagery, or stories. So i would like to explore other methods to create visuals for video-games, and something traditional came to mind, such as linocut.  Amanita design seems to follow this idea, as the game...

Registration on lino printing and the process

Image
Registration on lino printing and the process. In a project much like mine, when we have multiple prints of multiple colours, registration becomes necessary, as it aligns the previous print with the next one. I had two printing blocks per design, so, therefore i had to create a simple registration "tool" which was composed of a cutting board, hot glue and Kappa line. (See picture below) With this simple registration method, i used my blue oil paint and started printing the blue parts of my designs, followed by the black outline and details. The brown and red would come after with just a simple painting technique using acrylics (See picture below).

3D OUTCOME

Image
3D OUTCOME The 3D project i chose always felt very weak. Using the lino cuts and assemble them in such a way to create a deeper relief sculpture. Therefore, i started exploring concepts. In the theme of style variation and exploration, i thought of using a "graphic design" with a mix of abstract in order to recreate the statue "Venus of Willendorf" which is the most characteristic and well known primitive artifact. FIG.1 Venus of Willendorf (28,000- 25,000 BCE) Referencing these shapes I started drawing my design. These colours are purely out of planing. The material is kapa line foamboard, in the image above we can see the ones painted purple (with the side to the viewer) and the green ( edges facing the viewer). The other was simply to make sure of how many pieces it was in total. The sculpture will be later painted by a design i am yet to choose and will stand at about 30 to 40 cm height and 15-25 cm width.  Reference:  FIG.1 Venus of Willendorf (28,000- 25,000 ...

Practicing and Developing skills

Image
For this exercise i chose colour palletes, as the usage and creation of it was always complicated to me, and will be useful for the main project. I started by choosing a dominant colour and branch out from there. There were plenty of useful online tools that helped me think and choose colours for schemes.  After creating the variations i made sure the hues would have the same impact on the eye, if it would be too dark or too light. Furthermore i drawn a little simple face where i applied those very same colour schemes. After that i did some variations by using the digital tool of hue changing in the software CLIP STUDIO PAINT.
