SMART Objective

Image
SMART Objective For the major project this term i will do 4 multicoloured lino-prints with the "Prehistoric" theme. Im thinking of create a sequence of prints showing the decay of an entity and the birth of others, the cycle of life. After using the lino-cuts i will cut them and add them in order to create one multilayered sculpture. I have done a good amount of lino-printing, however never did multicoloured , so I'm very curious to see how it goes. I will do some research on the cave painting art style, the colors and the themes, then draw them (traditionally or digital), redraw on the lino plates, carve and print. The deadline will be on the 7th of September, which means i will have about 7 weeks. I am thinking of doing about 1 lino print per week. which would leave me with 3 weeks to complete the 3D piece, perfect everything and frame it.

Sketch Exploration

Sketch Exploration With the idea in mind to explore the circle of life and the arts-style based on the caveman paintings i started to so some sketching with colors shapes and themes. As i will do 4 lino cuts i thought of creating almost as if a "timelapse" of a live creature, its death, the decay and life sprouting of it.

Tell Me A Story

Tell Me A Story For the major project I am going to do 4 multicoloured lino cuts based on prehistoric caveman paintings. The story part of it is a bit more complicated to think of, as cave paintings were mostly about hunting. I thought about the story of "Brother Bear" (2003), in this Disney movie the main character must come with grips with the death of loved ones and in a way understand and respect the circle of life and other animals. I remembered also of the story of the oldest sign of human compassion, a toothless almost 2 million year old skull of a human descendant that survived years without any teeth, proving that in order to survive for so long members of his tribe must have been helping him find soft foods and even prepare them for him.  A theme that so often comes to mind is the circle of life. The death of an entity and the birth of others around it.

3D Head Self-Portrait

3D Head Self-portrait As an inspiration i looked into a lot of digital and traditional 3D heads, however the traditional ones definitely captured my attention the most. One idea that stood out was making a shrunken head self-portrait. I searched through the materials i had and found white clay and some natural rope, so i combined these two with some black wash and washed it further with coffee to darken it and to make it smell "old".  I only reminded myself of taking process pictures when i was almost done with the sculpture. The shrunken head turned out nice, however it looks less like me then i was hoping it would. Still it was a fun exercise!
