Odilon Redon

Image
Odilon Redon Odilon Redon (20/04/1840- 06/06/1916) was an outstanding French painter and graphic artist. I have never seen his work before, but I was highly amazed by is technique which I can only describe as “loose, experimental, expressive and surrealistic”. His themes are somewhat dark and definitely surrealistic. Having some organic elements with combination with other organic or non-organic elements. His shapes are great and I love his use of mixed media in his colour pieces. I will now list my favourite pieces.  The Conch Shell (1912)  Probably one of my favourite artworks from Odilon. Simple, messy, yet refined. It has a lot of graphic quality to it in my opinion. Figure Holding a Winged Head (1875)  In this one everything is admirable. The composition, colours, contrast and my favorite the texture. I love what he was able to achieve by using pastel, It reminds me of a religious medieval art piece. The Cyclops (1898) Im such a big fan of how messy he keeps t...

Mind Mapping

Mind Mapping Post As my first project I would like to create 6 different ecosystems. The past two and a half years I learned about the concept of “Permaculture” and food forests. This concept is a modest and more natural way of farming, instead of going against nature and all the natural elements that damage modern farming like insects, fungus, weather, etc, permaculture uses these elements to aid farming. Using the principle of a forest which is composed of multi-layers and that acknowledges that diversity is the key to a healthy and productive ecosystem, I want to create my own species of flora and fungi and create 6 ecosystems with this plants and mushrooms. "Fly Agaric Comission, Tiago N. 2021" In the past week I was commissioned to paint a Fly Agaric mushroom in a traditional medium, and that had an impact on me. I always liked drawing plants and mushrooms, but, whenever I looked at my digital pieces it seemed less interesting to me. However, by doing this commissio...

Ideas Generation- Martians have Landed

Image
Idea Representation Quick sketch of an ecosystem like environment. This is the sort of thing I would like to end up with but with a much more refined and stylized approach. I will attend to each specimen one at a time and would like to be able to assemble them as a final ecosystem.

First Thoughts

First Thoughts The theme that draws my attention the most was without a doubt the “Earthly Delights”, first because of the famous surrealistic garden of earthly delights painting, and then because I immediately started linking this theme to one of my hobbies, foraging. With foraging I learn the names, of plants and fungi, their ecosystem, if they are edible or poisonous, etc. And this sprouted in me the idea of doing plant and fungi design as if it were for a game. Doing multiple ecosystems where in each there would be a good variety of flora and mushrooms with unique and interesting shapes and colours. This idea would fit perfectly with game art as it is at times a big part of a game art. This reminds me of the art and gameplay of one of my favourite games, “Mutazione”, this game has as a main focus the story of a small village on an outcast island and the relation this village has to the plants and the fungi that support the island itself. It also reminds me of the concept ar...
