Odilon Redon
Odilon Redon Odilon Redon (20/04/1840- 06/06/1916) was an outstanding French painter and graphic artist. I have never seen his work before, but I was highly amazed by is technique which I can only describe as “loose, experimental, expressive and surrealistic”. His themes are somewhat dark and definitely surrealistic. Having some organic elements with combination with other organic or non-organic elements. His shapes are great and I love his use of mixed media in his colour pieces. I will now list my favourite pieces. The Conch Shell (1912) Probably one of my favourite artworks from Odilon. Simple, messy, yet refined. It has a lot of graphic quality to it in my opinion. Figure Holding a Winged Head (1875) In this one everything is admirable. The composition, colours, contrast and my favorite the texture. I love what he was able to achieve by using pastel, It reminds me of a religious medieval art piece.
