Cryptid Redesign ( Moth Man)

Image
Cryptid Redesign ( Moth Man) For the concept of the Moth Man I knew I wanted something much more insect like rather than human like. Based on my post of my research of the cryptid itself I started to create shapes. This one I had much less of an idea in mind and just went straight to practice.   I made these quick 6 sketches to see if any would give me a concrete idea of what I was going for. I ended up using elements of a lot of them to create a more refined idea. With this sketch i got an idea of what shape i wanted it to have, however I realised I was missing the wings. I added them while I was doing the silhouette.  With this silhouette and the sketch I started working on the line art. As soon as the line art was done, I started finding my real problem, which was colour. I wanted to give it some colour but did not want to overdo it. And I did not want to do it grey as I thought it would look dull.  I imagined blueish/ purple tones with bright eyes for co...

Cryptid Research ( Moth-Man)

Image
Cryptid Research ( Moth-Man) Moth man has always been one of my favourite cryptids. A folklore legend of a creature that would appear before catastrophe. The first spotting of this cryptid was in Virginia,1966 where gravediggers claimed to see a human like figure with wings and big eyes. However, there are claims of spotting it everywhere ever since. Before the collapsing of bridges, before someone disappearing and even before 9/11. People eventually started to relate this creature to U.F.O’s and another otherworldly phenomenon. Due to the popularity of this myth, books were wrote based on it, movies were made, and a statue of this cryptid was created and placed in West Virginia where it stands up to this day. By looking at other artists renditions I realised the more it looked like a moth and the less it looked humanoid the more I liked it. Below I will reference some artists renditions. https://themothman.fandom.com/wiki/Mothman_Art#Bob_Roach.27s_Mothman_Statue https...

Cryptid Redesign ( Chupa-Cabras)(UPDATE)

Image
Cryptid Redesign ( Chupa-Cabras) Following the post in where I explain what I found on it, I started to work on a different concept. One that reminded me more of mythology. I had the idea that it would be interesting to see something which would resemble a goat in any way and that the reason why it was so elusive its because it could somehow hide in plain sight by disguising as one of the goats. After some sketches I could not come up with a rendition that I like. So, I started to think of other concepts, maybe, it could be this mysterious force that would reap the life to give life, to make sure that natural balance was in place. Something that could appear at night, suck the life force, and distribute it to the surroundings. However, it is hard to draw a “mysterious force”, so I imagined a black shadowy figure. Luckily while I was searching for inspiration, I found an imagine that I could not trace to anyone, not the artist, not the festival activity, nothing! And this wa...

Cryptid Research ( Chupa-Cabras)

Image
Cryptid Research ( Chupa-Cabras) The first cryptid I researched was the Chupa-Cabras. It is Spanish for “goat-sucker” as the cryptid itself originated from South Americas, specifically Puerto Rico. As for cryptids go, this one is fairly recent, being reported only in 1995 when a farmer noticed his goats have been found dried as if their suck has been sucked out of them. This cryptid has been later reported by other livestock farmers with the same complaints and adding to it with some of the creature’s description. Said to have the size of a small bear, with spike like shapes. Of course, there was never a photo as this “creature” was very elusive. I personally disliked most of the renditions people made of the cryptid and decided to make my own. I will enlist below some of other artists renditions. https://www.deviantart.com/prodigyduck/art/Chupacabra-820431871 https://www.deviantart.com/riixon/art/Chupacabra-340652694 https://www.deviantart.com/pyro-helfier/art/El-Chupacabra-50357...

Software Choice

Image
Software Choice The software I used for this major project is Clip Studio Paint. I purchased a licenced version in 2019 and it allowed me to produce a lot of digital paintings, drawings and edit photos. There were some other software’s that I investigated however the idea of using them was discarded because I either did not have the financial stability to pay for the licence (Photoshop), or did not had the tools that I required to use such a software (Procreate). Photoshop has a multitude of great tools in disposal, as a photo editing software it would allow me to shape and re-shape everything I wanted and have such a strong control over my result, however like I briefly explain, photoshop licences are expensive, and the “licence provided” by the university is very strange and glitchy.   Procreate is an amazing software that I have looked up for a long time now. It has remarkable tools for digital art that seems unmatched by any other software of the kind. Unfortunately...

Website Development

We bsite Develo pment (About Me Section) When it comes to talking about myself and my work I usually stumble on some issues. I lack the critically reflection on my own work and work method and therefore never know how to expose my work and explain it critically speaking. As it was required by the assignment, I started by taking some self portrait pictures using the techniques taught in class. However, I dislike the idea of a “clean” professional basic photo. I’m not selling real estate or I’m not trying to promote my self-image as a selling point, I am trying to sell my art as my individual characteristic. So, I tried being a bit more experimental, but with the lack of materials and the poor quality of camera and of my own photographic skills, these pictures turned out a disaster.       After hiding behind my desk chair while peaking at these cringe worthy pictures I remembered I had some “funny” pictures taken of me for a work of a friend of mine about ...
