A Journey to Concept Art

  Cryptid Redesign ( Gambuzino) With the little information I had on this cryptid I felt like I could go over his design in a lot of different ways, but an idea stuck out the most, which was a small, rabbit/hare like creature. I started drawing random shapes and poses that would appeal to me and then tried to work on those that stand out. These were the first sketches, I wanted to form an idea. Was I going to do an existing creature with some strange features? A complete amalgam of different creatures? Or perhaps just something resembling human characteristics to appeal to a creepier side? What became clear for me was that I wanted something of a small size, somewhat cute features but also creepy on eerie ones.   By analysing the sketches and speaking to some of my friends and peers I realised the pose/shape on the top right corner of my initial sketches was the one I wanted to elaborate on.   Cryptid Research ( Gambuzino) The Gambuzino was the hardest to find information about, as one of the features of this cryptid is its nonexistence. Gambuzino is a Portuguese cryptid used mostly as a joke in situations where people spend a lot of time staring at nothing or doing nothing, we in Portugal say they are staring at a gambuzino or “à caça do gambuzino” which stands for hunting this cryptid. I thought this would be an interesting cryptid to make due to the lack of knowledge about him, there are no sightings, there are no specific depictions. I imagine it to be small and agile, with the ability to camouflage and blend in with the environment. When doing my research on it I realised it is a trendy cryptid amongst modern organic Portuguese coffee shops and restaurants.
