Flora Design and Concept Art
Flora Design and Concept Art
Here i show a projects of games, animated series and an artist's work. They all have relevant features to my project as they show qualities that i would like to have in my project.
Samurai Jack is an animated series from 2001 that standed out by is amazing and unique visuals. It had a beautiful way of transmiting the idea of "show not tell" to the audience. Most of the episodes would be composed of stunning visuals, brilliant animation and simplistic yet well composed sounds.
One thing that always caught my attention was how the shapes of the flora looked so rigid yet organic, the shapes were very diferent from anything i have seen at the time and it stuck with me.
Mutazione is an wholesome soap-opera game from 2019 that lets the player step out of daily stresses and live in a holistic small island were your small actions bring life and joy to yourself and others. Plants and fungi are a huge part of the game's focus, therefore the designs are simple yet so pleasing.
Very vector like with usually from 2 colour to about 5 per specimen which makes them very iconic and simple.
Gris is a gorgeous 2D platformer from the year of 2018, this game js a perfect assembly of a simplistic yet relatable story, stunning aquarelle visuals, extremely well composed soundtrack and a satisfying gameplay. This game has such a unique and interesting approach to flora, like a mix of rigid forms with curvilinear shapes and a very organised composition. It looks organic but it such a human designed way.
Braydan Barret is a concept artist from the UK. He was a comic book like style with outlining, cross-hatching, faded colours and simple shadows. The things that really sticks out to me is the shape exploration of the artist in this personal project called "100 trees". He explores the visual parts of what makes a tree a tree, the top (folliage), the middle (trunk) and the bottom (roots) and takes it to the next level. Highly geometrical, organic, curves, sharp edges, etc... He tries so much shape exploration that in the end his specimens end up barely resembling anything yet still containing the principals of what a tree is.
Astroneer is a game released in 2016 that brought stunning visuals, creative environment and a fun chill gameplay of exploration and creation. The flora is very interesting as it has recognisable features yet extremely explored and pushed to a different level. This amazing concepts by Kristina Ness show a wide variety of concepts with different shapes varying from organic to geometrical.

Good research very relevant to your project. Can you add what software the different artists/designers are using. Is it similar to what you intend to use?
