Cryptid Research (Dobhar-Chú)
Dobhar
chú is the water dog cryptid. Described as half dog and half fish or even the
king otter. The origin comes from the folklore of Ireland. Supposedly the name
Dobhar chú has its origins in other Celtic languages.
It is said that the cause of her death was engraved in her headstone as “Killed
by Chobhar-Chú”.
The first ever appearing of such a legend was in the 17th
century, where in the county of Leitrim this cryptid was said to attack and
kill a local woman.
This Cryptid is often depicted as a stretched dog like figure with
body and legs like the ones of a dog, long and strong tail and depth of rib.
I will showcase below various artists representations of the
cryptid.
